Tour Details
Almost everyone make their first trip to India by visiting North India, particularly the Rajasthan, Delhi, Agra, and Varanasi. South India is different from the north in several ways; the people, their customs, the landscapes, and the places to visit. This itinerary through the south covers the two states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, starting in Chennai and ending in Cochin. One possible extension after the trip is to the Maldives or even to Sri Lanka, which are relatively close.
Day 01
Arrival in Chennai on the night of Day 1 or early in the morning of Day 2. Welcome at the airport and transfer to your hotel.
Day 02
Travel to Mahabalipuram via Kanchipuram, the city of temples. Visit some of the main temples. Arrival in Mahabalipuram and check-in at your hotel. Overnight in Mahabalipuram.
Day 03
Visits and experiences in Mahabalipuram. Visit monuments like the Five Rathas, Arjuna’s Penance, and the Shore Temple. Overnight in Mahabalipuram.
Day 04
Travel to Tanjore visiting the temples at Darasuram and GangaikondaCholapuram along the way. Arrival in Tanjore and check-in at your hotel. Overnight in Tanjore.
Day 05
Visits and experiences in Tanjore. Visit the Great Chola Temple. Visit the Royal Palace. Overnight in Tanjore.
Day 06
Travel to Madurai visiting the Srirangam Temple in Trichy. Arrival in Madurai and check-in at your hotel. Overnight in Madurai.
Day 07
Visits and experiences in Madurai. Visit the Meenakshi Temple and the Royal Palace. At night, attend the palanquin ceremony at the Meenakshi Temple. Overnight in Madurai.
Day 08
Travel to Periyar/Thekkady. Arrival in Periyar and check-in at your hotel. Afternoon activity: Visit a spice plantation and take a public boat ride on Periyar Lake. Overnight in Periyar.
Day 09
Travel to Cochin with a stop in Alleppey to enjoy a typical boat ride with lunch on board. Arrival in Cochin and check-in at your hotel. Overnight in Cochin.
Day 10
Visits and experiences in Cochin. Visit Mattancherry Palace, the Paradesi Synagogue. Attend a Kathakali dance show. Overnight in Cochin or transfer to Cochin airport to catch your return or onward flight, departing either on the night of day 10 or the morning of day 11.
